Phytoplankton Lab Write-Up Rubric
Title: The effect of phytoplankton on water & eutrophication
Background: The things that I know about Nutrient it really bad for the fertilization of the oceans is fertilization of nutrients in the CO2 maybe they can be both harmful and good, because the fertilization of nutrients in CO2 can also cause the eutrophication and create hypoxia in the water too. That is not mean nutrient fertilization is bad for the phytoplankton. Phytoplankton are microscopic plants that grow in the upper regions of the ocean where sunlight is plentiful they all a chain reaction. If the ocean loss a lot of the "Oxygen" then all the animals or nutrients in the ocean will die. The ocean will become a dead zone.
Hypothesis: If I add more nutrients into the different phytoplankton, then the phytoplankton will growing.
Brief Protocol: In the experiment the phytoplankton treatment divide into 3 groups, each groups have 2 people. The experiment for the 1st group is the control, the 2nd is add nutrients, and the last one is add nutrients and Iron together. 10 days for the experiment, but my team only have 8 days. The variables that were monitored is independent ( the different type of solutions) and the dependent ( the amount that each person in the team have to add to their solution).

Conclusion: Base on the graph, I know that my hypothesis wasn't correct because as you can see the green line is the taller one which is + nutrients and Iron. The things I learn about nutrients and their importance in ecosystems is phytoplankton was need nutrients. The reason why phytonlankton are important in the ecosystems it because phytonlankton was at the bottom of the ocean food web. Phytopalnkton are necessary for this country & for the whole world. My opinion is that I need to find more data it because I can see that what is the different or same of the other data have. Maybe my is wrong or their is wrong, more data can help me easily find the correct answer. The pros is some of the part of the ocean is really need nutrients because they about to become a dead zone. The con is the grazers can use iron to released water gas into the atmosphere.
